BIOS (Basic Input Output System)

The BIOS handles the start-up of the system and its operating system. It provides basic chip set and processor support. Although nowadays most performance optimization is done in the operating system drivers, it is remarkable how often it is required to also enable or disable features in the BIOS. All BIOS settings are stored in either VRAM or CMOS memory, which are both types of non-volatile memory.
