Idle is one of the drive power saving modes. The idle mode allows drives to implement a mode which reduces power but does not power down the spindle engine. Whether this mode is automatically entered and under which circumstances is vendor specific. Software can explicitly request the drive to enter this mode. The drive will automatically return to Active when a command is issued.
