SATA (Serial ATA)

SATA is a relatively new standard which tries to cope with the existing PATA problems. Relying on a serial protocol using differential encoding the data cables are much smaller thus allowing a better airflow across the system. SATA as most new technology has had some minor start-up glitches but it looks very promising. SATA is replacing PATA very rapidly and promises higher transfer rates and less cabling problems.
