Security allows you to add a password to the drive. The drive requires the password to be unlocked. There are two security levels high and maximum. In the first mode a second password can be used to perform a security erase. This will clear the password and all data. In maximum mode the drive can not be recovered when the password is lost. Not in a standard way at least, there are a number of companies which will unlock a locked drive for a fee. This makes security to weak to be serious. Note that security erase does impose a security risk.
