Cable, data, 80 wire (PATA)

This cable is required for UDMA mode 3 and higher. Compared to the 40 wire cable the main change is the addition of 40 ground wires. These ground wires suppress crosstalk between data wires which increased with higher transfer speeds. Connected devices must be designated to be the primary (Master) or secondary (Slave) device using Cable Select (CSEL) or jumpers. Note that the connector type is equal to the 40 wire cable.

A few years ago the so-called round cable was introduced to increase airflow inside the computer system. These cables are functionally the same. 80 wire cable
