Cable, data, 40 wire (PATA)

This is the cable used by PATA devices to transfer data. Classically it uses a 4 centimetres (1.8 inches) wide flat cable with two or three connectors. This cable can support up to two drives. When only one device is connected to a cable with three connectors make sure to only use the connectors at the end of the cable to prevent data to bounce (reflection) which can lead to data corruption. This type of cable can be used up to UDMA mode 2 (Ultra DMA/33). Higher transfer modes require a 80 wire cable. Connected devices must be designated to be the primary (Master) or secondary (Slave) device using Cable Select (CSEL) or jumpers.
