Ultra DMA is a technology used by PATA units and provides the best transfer rates available for PATA units today. For compatibility reasons SATA units report UDMA support; however in reality they use a different transfer method. UDMA modes up to mode 2 can be reached over 'standard' PATA 40 wire cables; higher modes require a 80 wire cable.
